Individual Therapy:

Within individual therapeutic work I aim to help children over 12 years old, and their families address a wide variety of behavioural and emotional difficulties (e.g. anxiety, depression, OCD, behavioural problems, anger, grief, phobias, self esteem and adjustment difficulties).

My training allows me to draw on a number of modes of treatment, including Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and narrative therapy, to provide an integrative approach that is tailored to the client’s needs.

My normal course of action is to provide an initial consultation during which we can talk together about the issues that are causing difficulty and decide how to proceed.  It is important to have this initial consultation opportunity to be sure I am the right person to help.  Parent/s and child may come together to this initial appointment or parent/s can attend alone so that they can talk freely about their concerns.  At the end of this consultation, I may decide that I should work with a child alone, that I should meet with parent/s alone to help them support their child most effectively, or we may consider a combination of these approaches.

Please be aware, I am an independent practitioner and some issues (e.g. eating disorders, severe self harm) cannot be effectively managed without a multi-disciplinary approach and/or crisis management options.  We can communicate about the issues you are facing prior to a consultation and I will be clear if I feel I could not assist.  Sometimes this is less obvious until we have talked through a consultation but I will never seek to engage a client unless I feel they are suited to my service.

Ongoing appointments may be weekly, fortnightly, or less often.  Appointments are generally 50 minutes, although sometimes 25 works better for the child.  Frequency of appointments and other aspects of the treatment would be discussed together at an initial consultation appointment.  I am happy to liaise with a child’s school with regards to their difficulties and management.

While the majority of my clients are children and adolescents, I do offer appointments to some adults where appropriate.  Please make contact to discuss whether I offer an appropriate service for you.

Please see home page for availability for therapy appointments.

I also offer cognitive assessments, to provide a greater understanding of your child's strengths and weaknesses.  Please see the assessment page on this website for more details.
